How Acid Proof Brick Lining Protects Against Corrosion?

1. Physical Barrier Formation

The dense, low-porosity brick surface presents a chemically inert shield between the corrosive substance and the equipment surface. Unlike steel or concrete, the ceramic brick has no micro-pores or surface reactions that could initiate a corrosion chain.

2. Chemically Inert Surface Chemistry

Silica-rich ceramic bricks form a passivated silica layer under acid attack. 

3. Mortar Joint Sealing

The acid-resistant mortar fills every joint between bricks with a chemically compatible binder. Furan resin mortar, for example, cures into a thermoset polymer that resists nearly all organic and inorganic acids. The mortar and brick act as a unified system with no weak links at the interfaces.

4. Membrane Redundancy

Procedure of Acid Proof Brick Lining

  • Step 1: First surface is cleaned manual/mechanically
  • Step 2: Surface is prepared with bitumen primer for adhesion
  • Step 3: Acid resistant brick is laid with selected mortar with bedding 5-6mm and Pointing(Joint filling) 3-4mm.
  • Step 4: Curing of Brick-Mortar system with suitable time period describe by the manufactural.
